We believe in the right to a decent life for everyone and in social justice. We believe that access to decent housing is a fundamental right for each of us and that public institutions in Romania have an obligation to support vulnerable people and families to live safely.

The Home Project. is a structured form through which we will document forms of precarious housing in Bucharest, we will communicate with local public authorities and we will inform you about the projects of public authorities in the area of social assistance (mainly in the area of housing).

For more than 15 years, Romania has been signing international treaties and conventions that place housing in the area of human rights. For some time he has taken a step forward and started to draw up national strategies in which public institutions have the courage to say things by name: housing is among the most expensive among Romanians' spending (whether we are talking about rents and / or utility bills). However, national strategies remain either at the draft stage or are completely ignored by local public authorities. In short, the concerns of local public authorities in the field of social housing is visible in waiting lists for social housing, for some even more than 20 years.

We set out for the Home project. to:

  1. We document the effects of housing in inappropriate conditions for people who do not have the money needed to rent a home on the free market;

  2. We bring together people affected by housing poverty and representatives of local public authorities;

  3. We propose methodologies for implementing local council decisions based on human rights principles.

Getting out of the situation of vulnerability is completely dependent on a home. Without a home, a person will not be able to sleep well, which will lead, over time, to chronic fatigue and depression. Without access to water, people cannot take care of their hygiene. Without access to a cooking machine, people will not have a healthy diet. In the absence of electricity, children will have their right to education affected. In the absence of a lease, people are denied even the right to make plans for their future.

Partners in this project are the Parada Foundation and the ActiveWatch Association. We wanted to bring together the expertise of working directly with vulnerable people, advocacy and human rights.

In this project we will promote the right of every person to live with dignity, the right to have access to social assistance made in the spirit of human dignity, the right to have adequate, safe and affordable housing. And that's because housing is not a merit and it is not a market good - housing is a right.
